Alia Bhatt and Shaheen talked about their personal skin-related issues alongwith their favorite skincare products. Regarding skin, the Bhatt sisters love to share everything they go through.

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt, alongwith her beloved sister, Shaheen Bhatt, dropped a video recently, which was titled “Skin secrets with Alia and Shaheen” on their Youtube channel.

Alia, the mother of Raha, talked about her skin type, her insecurities, and her personal skincare routine, with Shaheen.

Shaheen taught Alia everything there is to know about the essentials of skincare and how the ingredients played an important role in the products. Shaheen Bhatt gifted her sister a skin care kit instruction, back in 2019, that elaborated on how to follow a morning and evening skincare regime.

Alia Bhatt & Shaheen Bhatt’s Video On Her Personal Skincare Routine

The sisters initiated the video by talking about their individual skin types.

Alia Bhatt has combination skin, however, her T-zone feels quite oily. Shaheen suffers from extremely dry skin and PIH (caused by acne). Her skincare routine is focused on preventing irritation and skin sensitivity.

The next thing, that they emphasized was their major skin concerns. Alia Bhatt suffers from dry patches which are exacerbated by her acne spots, on a regular basis. Shaheen sought for a skincare routine that would take care of their dark circles and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a commonly acquired skin disorder occurring after skin inflammation or injury which makes certain parts of the skin darker than its surroundings.

The third topic that they spoke about was their skin goals, which included following self-care rituals, preventing acne, and attaining naturally glowing skin alongwith some preventative care.

Both the sisters talked about how skincare was important to them and how the skin deserves some care and love, alongwith the other things that they pursue in their lives.

Several do’s & don’ts were also dropped, in terms of having a simple skincare routine, like applying potent actives that are non-compatible, which in turn can damage the skin’s natural barrier.

Step 1: Cleaning The Face

It is always important that you start your skincare ritual with a good but gentle cleanser.

Alia uses a gentle cleanser that retains the natural oils in her skin. She uses Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, which does its job well.

Shaheen Bhatt does not cleanse her face in the morning, all thanks to her extremely dry skin, and skips straight to the second step after splashing some lukewarm water on her face. She follows a double cleansing routine at night, which helps her remove all the dirt, impurities, and makeup from her face.

The suggestions dropped by the sisters is on point. You can also check out some other alternatives for some of the best gentle cleansers on the market.

The Lucidum Cleansing Lotion is specially formulated for sensitive skin for daily cleansing purposes. The lotion is pH balanced & soap-free which makes is ideal for sensitive skin

Neolayr Pro Enlite Skin Illuminating Face Wash is enriched with World Class Ingredients like Niacinamide (sourced from Lonza, Switzerland) that lightens and brightens your skin while evening its tone.

If you are suffering from acne and acne-related problems, then opt for the Ridacne SA Foaming Face Wash, which helps to reduce acne without drying out the skin. The Face wash contains 2% Salicylic Acid (sourced from Merck, Germany) that unclogs pores and removes oil & dirt.

Step 2: Using A Toner

Alia Bhatt opts for a mist toner, which boosts hydration and pushes some essential ingredients into her skin before she moves on to the serum.

The mist is quite easy to apply and the actives reach the deeper layers, as compared to a regular toner. Alia chose the Byoma Balancing Face Mist, which is rich with probiotics and a tri-ceramide complex.

Ceramides help to nourish the skin, as they are said to be the building blocks of the skin’s carrier. Probiotics help to balance the skin, brighten it, and even its tone while working on reducing dry skin, skin irritations, and acne. It also adds an extra punch of hydration to the skin.

If you are looking for a mist toner that does it job pretty well while being wallet-friendly, then opt for the Chromalite Depigmenting Skin Brightening Toner, which helps to exfoliate dead skin cells to make the skin look radiant and bright.

Neolayr Pro Enlite Skin Illuminating Toner is also another alternative, that exfoliates dead skin cells and stimulates cell renewal. The Toner contains 25% buffered Lactic Acid containing 5% free Lactic Acid (sourced from Corbion PURAC, Netherlands) that improves the skin texture while smoothening it.

Step 3: Applying The Serum

You can introduce potent ingredients into your skincare routine with the help of serums. Shaheen is a big fan of serums. The first one that she uses is the Hyaluronic Acid serum which draws moisture from the surroundings to the skin to fight against dryness and impart a plumper-looking skin.

The HA serum is a great humectant for dry skin and should be used on damp skin, and followed by a moisturizer to retain it. This is better known as a “moisture sandwich”.

She prefers Skinceuticals Intensifier which bears different sizes of molecules of the active, to penetrate deeper into the skin. She follows it up with a ceramide serum, which helps to repair her damaged skin barrier and offers proper nourishment to soothe the skin. For this, she uses the Glow Recipe Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum. The serum is enriched with avocado extracts, that is rich in lipids and omega-3 fatty acids. To treat her under-eye region, she applies The Ordinary Caffeine Solution. Caffeine is the perfect ingredient to reduce puffiness, fine lines & wrinkles while brightening that region under the eye.

Alia Bhatt prefers Rhode Peptide Glazing Fluid, which helps stimulates the production of collagen and aids in the addition of hydration to make her skin firm, supple and plump.

One important fact to know is that these serums are nourishment focussed and help in the repair of the skin barrier. The serums do not contain strong actives, which is an extremely smart move, as strong actives cause irritation.

Serums are an important asset in the skincare routine.
We have jotted down the best serums you can get within your budget and classified them on the basis of their ingredients:

Vitamin C:

Renewderm Vitamin C is a skin-brightening, anti-oxidant face serum that imparts radiance & glow while being pH balanced, fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic. The serum protects from dark spots & photo-aging to offer a smooth & glowing skin.

Niacinamide:

Chromalite Skin Brightening Serum is enriched with Niacinamide 10% (sourced from Lonza, Switzerland) and is an advanced skin-lightening face serum that decreases melanin transfer to even out skin tone & reduces blemishes & pigmentation.

Salicylic Acid:

Ridacne SA Serum is an active concentrate of Salicylic Acid that helps prevent Acne while purifying the skin at the same time. This face serum regulates sebum production and prevents new acne lesions.

Hyaluronic Acid:

Neolayr Pro Eterna Hyaluronic Acid Age Renewal Hydrating Face Serum is an active concentrate that replenishes the optimal level of Hyaluronic Acid in the skin to repair the signs of aging.

Step 4: Using A Moisturiser

The benefits of the serum must be locked in, so moisturiser is needed to top it up.

Alia Bhatt likes to use a lightweight moisturizer, D’You in My Defence, which suits her combination skin. The ingredients present in this moisturiser act as a hydrating agent while being mildly occlusive.

Shaheen uses a heavy moisturiser that suits her excessively dry skin. She applies the A-Derma Epitheliate A.H. Ultra Soothing Repairing Cream, as per her dermatologist’s recommendation. The moisturiser works perfectly well for sensitive skin, as it does not cause irritation.

If you are looking for another option that is friendly, no matter what your skin type is, then get the NMF-e Skin Lotion which keeps your skin moisturised for a long duration and helps to avoid dry skin conditions.

The lotion contains Aloe Vera & Vitamin E, in a base enhanced with Optim-Aqua technology, which keeps skin moisturised and helps to avoid Dry Skin Conditions.

Step 5: Sun Protection

The last step is stated to be the most important step in the entire skincare routine and both the Bhatt sisters indulge in the same, to protect their skin from sun damage and eventually reverse the visible signs of aging.

Alia shared that she uses a generous amount of sunscreen, before going ahead with her makeup.

Both the Bhatt sisters loved the Isdin Fotoprotector Fusion Water SPF 50, which is a lightweight formula that does the needful without leaving a white cast behind.

If ISDIN Fotoprotector Fusion Water feels a little heavy on your wallet, then go for Sunmate Gel Cream, which offers broad-spectrum sun protection and is PA+++ & Boots 5-star rated.

Step 6: Taking Care Of The Lips

It is important to provide nourishment to the lips, by indulging in lip balm usage.

Alia Bhatt loves to apply the Rhode Peptide lip treatment, while Shaheen preferred the old Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment.

If you are looking for something that is healthy for your lips as well as for your wallet, then go for the Neolayr Lip Care, which provides absolute nourishment & hydration for your lips

Another alternative that you can go for is the NMFe Moisturising Lip Care.

NMFe Moisturising Lip Care with Aloe Vera, Vitamin E & SPF 40+ formula, protects your lips from dryness & sun damage and is specially designed for Acne patients undergoing oral isotretinoin therapy
